First Steps offers a broad range of QCF units and qualifications that will enable students to achieve and progress to the next stage of their education whether they choose college or work based training.
Our core offer focuses on Functional Skills and vocational training, giving students an insight into the world of work and something meaningful to aspire to. Vocational courses are Pearson BTEC courses which are recognised with employers and further education colleges.
Programmes are entirely flexible to meet the needs of the child and the school, including length of stay and hours per week.
The curriculum also incorporates enrichment and non-accedited learning such as careers education, PSHE, independent living, healthy living, ICT, community projects and educational visits. These activities are planned to increase motivation, social skills, self-confidence and to improve behaviour.
Bespoke and specific targeted intervention is also offered where there are support needs identified. The range of support includes Early Help, resilience work, drug and alcohol awareness, e-safety, anger management and mentoring. First Steps actively works with external agencies to enhance the provision such as Young Addaction, Link to Change, Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children Board, Stay Safe Partnership, Prevent, School Nursing Team and many more.
A personalised plan can be arranged to best suit the needs of the young person and to compliment their current curriculum route. If we are not offering the course that you require, please contact us to discuss your needs as we may be able to deliver a course solely for your learners.
First Steps can also provide experience days, skills workshops and tasters/trials. These can be used to enhance your careers education programme, to help students overcome barriers and as rewards for students to work towards.
